Why Split is one of the most beautiful holiday city in Europe

Split has everything you want from a seaside holiday city, beautiful beaches with clear water nearby, lots of fabulous historic places to visit, delicious food and a driving night life.

You can reach Split from major cities in Europe by air or make it a stop on your car tour of Croatia, Bosnia & Montenegro.

Split has one of the most amassing roman buildings to survive to our days, Diocletian Palace build by the Roman emperor with the same name some 1700 years a go. Today the palace is part of the city who used his walls and rooms to expend creating a one of a kind city, something you will never see in other place.

I’ve got to split by car so was easy to visit other small towns and beaches near by and if your not on a small budget i suggest you rent a car for this trip since thees a lot to see nearby and you will not regretted. Parking downtown is difficult so chose a apartment or hotel with parking that is not very far from center if you mind walking.

For accommodation i chose a 2 rooms apartment from Booking some 15 min walk from center that cost me 70 Euro/ night in high season but there are also lots of hotels and hostels for any budget.

You will find in Split a lot of restaurants open late into the night everywhere in the center and on the promenade by the sea, a budget of 20-30 Euro / person is reasonable.

For party people there are plenty of bars and clubs all over the city where you can have fun all night.

After seeing more the 500 city in Europe i can with out hesitation that Split is one of my favorites when it comes to seaside cites and I cant wait to be back. Here are some pictures of my trip:

Montenegro, a secret paradise.

Montenegro is a secret paradise, a Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline between Albania and Croatia.

The Bay of Kotor, resembling a fjord, is dotted with coastal churches and fortified towns such as Kotor and Herceg Novi. Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, encompasses limestone peaks, glacial lakes and 1,300m-deep Tara River Canyon.

The city of Budva is the place to be on the Montenegro cost. The city hosts a fancy marina full of luxury yachts and a medieval fort with narrow streets full of souvenir shops. Lots of restaurants and small hotels and apartments for rent make the place very tourist friendly.

The beaches are mostly made of small stones so the water is very clear and clean but you need beach shoos to fell comfortable.

Costs are high in season (mid Jun to mid September) as reach Yacht owners and Nord Europeans flood the little country so expect to spend 75 Euro / day or more.

Best to visit as part of your Balkan car tour ( Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia)

Macedonia & Skopje ( FYROM )

Macedonia & Skopje,

Macedonia is probably the most exotic and poor place in Europe, a landlocked small Balkan nation of mountains, lakes and ancient towns with Islamic, ottoman and European architecture.

The capital of Macedonia is Skopje, is known for its sprawling Old Bazaar quarter and historic buildings turned museums, including the National Gallery of Macedonia, housed in a 15th-century Turkish bath complex. The southern city Ohrid, on a lake of the same name, has a medieval townscape and a recently restored hilltop castle.

The place feels more like middle east because of Islamic influence that is present at every step, the traditional food is of oriental origin too.

The country is safe to visit but is not a touristic destination however once there is quite a lot to see and since the country is not so big is easy to do everything in 2-3 days. Accommodation options are abundant and for all budgets, local food is cheep and testy, you will spend some 50 Euro a day for mid range accommodation and food.

Best to visit as part of your Balkan car tour ( Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia)

The Dubai Fountain Show

Dubai Fountain is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, located at the center of the Downtown Dubai development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Most people access the fountain area via Dubai Mall. The fountain consists of a 275 metre long central arc of jets, joined to a smaller arc and 5 circles of jets. When the show begins these powerful jets shoot water sprays to heights of up to 150 metres in harmony with the music and illuminated by over 6,000 powerful lights and 50 colour projectors.

Performances are held every day and last some 5 minutes. Evening shows start at 6 pm and are every half hour until 11 pm. There are also 2 shows in the daytime; at 1 pm and 1.30 pm (1.30 pm and 2 pm on Fridays). The music accompanying the displays range from contemporary pop to classical. Access to the fountain and shows are completely free and can be seen from various locations around Downtown Dubai.

The most popular spot is the Waterfront Promenade outside the Dubai Mall. Arive before the performance begins as, thousands of people pour out from the mall and the area gets extremely busy when the show starts.

The walkway around Souk Al Bahar is far less crowded and offers a more pleasant viewing experience. Spectators coming from the Dubai Mall will need to set off around 20 minutes before the performance begins to avoid the crowds at the Dubai Mall exit and the Souk Al Bahar Bridge.

For a really fantastic view, book a table or arrive early at one of the restaurants with outdoor seating areas overlooking the lake and fountain. Restaurants with good views at the Dubai Mall include Five Guys, TGI Fridays, Wafi Gourmet – an Lebanese restaurant, Carluccio’s Italian restaurant , Joe’s Café, Madeleine – French Restaurant , and Burj Al Hamam – Lebanese Restaurant.

Several restaurants at Souk Al Bahar also offer fantastic views, Dean & Deluca Café, Baker & Spice, Rivington Grill,, Urbano Italian,, Margaux Restaurant (French), Mango Tree (Thai), and Bice Mare (Italian). The Rivington Grill, Margaux, Mango Tree, and Bice Mare serve alcohol.

Dubrovnik the gem

Dubrovnik is the gem of Croatia, a medieval city incredibly well preserved on the Adriatic Sea coast. Dubrovnik is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, the city looks and feels just like 1000 years a go and probably only shops and people change.

Being a important touristic hot spot expect crowded places and congestion when arriving and on the narrow streets and at must see places, siting at restaurants can be hard to find at lunch and diner time.

If you come by car from other city you will have to park outside old town, parking may be full if you arrive late in season so expect to walls 1-2 km from parking place. Summer is very hot in Croatia and more in Dubrovnik so be prepared for 35 C or more.

There are many beautiful small streets and corners in Dubrovnik and finding them is a adventure, fells like a labyrinth so a map and knowing what you want to see can save you lost of time and make the visit more enjoyable.

Singapore food

In Singapore you are like in a mall of foods from everywhere, there is Chinese, Indian, Thai, Malaysian, Philippines, Japanese, European and mere, be sure they have it all!

The diversity of food is mind blowing at good quality and prices are decent but not cheep. Singapore is a place where you can relay discover flavors of Asian food in a safe mode 🙂

Some of Singapore delicacies include Satay, Roti Prata a sort of Indian pizza, Fried Kway Tiao – fried black noodles served with cockles, Hokkien Noodles – seafood noodle, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Ice Kachang a flavoured ice with ingredients like red bean and jelly, Chendol a coconut based dessert, Grass Jelly a refreshing black jelly and Tao Suan, bean in sticky paste, topped by fried dough.

So when you visit come hungry and get prepared to get back with some extra pounds.

Timisoara is nice for a city brake or more!

Timisoara is one of the best city’s to visit in Romania, easy accessible by low cost flights from many European country’s ( Italy, Germany, UK, France, Spain, Belgium ) the city is going to be the European capital of culture in 2021.

The city is vivid and full of young beautiful people as Timisoara si one of the major university hubs of Romania. There are lost of small accessible hotels and hostel and food in student places is very cheep at some 4-6 euro/person.

Extravagant night life in the student clubs and bars with alcohol at 1/6 of the price in most other European city’s is a big plus. A beer is in most places some 1.5 Euro and a cocktail some 3 euro.

Walking is the best option to explore the city as the center is not that big and if needed taxis will set you back only 3-4 euro / trip

Singapore by night

Singapore is a city whit two faces, the day and the night.

If you are in Singapore you have to go out at night and experience the city, it will be totally different then what you see by day light.

Marina Bay is a good place to start as you go to the Sands terrace to have an overview of the city from the rooftop some 60 floors up, from there you can see Singapore in all directions.

Clarke Quay is the party hub of Singapore with dazzling lights, beautiful people and buzzing nightclubs and pubs along the Singapore River.

Surf the bars in the area like Bamboo Bar at The Forbidden City, Lunar Asian Fusion Bar or Bar Opiume at the Empress Place, Canvas and more.

Albania one of the very few exotic parts of Europe

Albania is one of the very few exotic parts of Europe, now safe and fast developing is a place where you can see the transition from communism to capitalism at the midway.

You can reach Albania by car/bus from Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo or Montenegro and by plane, now days low cost flights available from Italy , Greece and Turkey.

The cites of Albania don’t have much to offer but the mountain region and the seaside is definitely wort a tour. The only historic buildings worth mentioning for a traveler are the famous bunkers from communist time that you can see everywhere, apparently Albania spend most of its resources in communist times building lots of bunkers to prevent a invasion from capitalist countries.

Albania is one of the cheapest places in Europe so you can get by decently with some 20-30 euros a day if you stick to small hotels and b&b’s and eat like locals. High-end hotels and restaurants are expensive for what they offer.

If your on a fast track you can see Tirana, the mountains region and the sea side in 4 days or as part of a tour of Balkans ( Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia).
